Nexus 6P Owners Report Spontaneous Glass Cracking On Device
Posted By: UnknownPublished: 07:51
Huawei’s Nexus 6P has managed to garner a whole heap of attention over the last few weeks due to it being pushed as one of the latest flagship Nexus devices to hit the Android arena. The majority of that initial attention was soaked with positives vibes, but that positivity seems to be quickly fading into the depths of despair as yet another set of users take to social media to complain about the seemingly poorly build quality of the device. This time it’s the glass “visor” on the rear of the smartphone that’s coming in for negative commentary.
For those that may not be familiar with the physical structure of the Nexus 6P, the hardware comes with a strip of Gorilla Glass 4 across the top of the rear of the device that’s in place to not only from an aesthetic view point, but to also offer protection to the underlying camera lens. The existence of this glass panel, or “visor” as it’s being referred to due to its appearance, was immediately criticized by reviewers of the hardware. The fact that users have been taking to Reddit to complain of it spontaneously cracking adds a little credibility to those design criticisms.
Huawei’s latest smartphone has already been criticized for the fact that it bends quite easily and the main display cracks under pressure as part of that bending process. However, both of those issues actually occur when an individual is deliberately attempting to cause damage to the hardware, or when it comes under unexpected pressure, such as being in a pocket and sat on.
The latest shots to be taken of the device are notably more worrying as the glass seems to be cracking without being dropped or coming under any blunt force trauma from an external object. Just spontaneous and unexplained cracking of the Gorilla Glass 4.
As is usually the case when anything is reported via any social media platform, the conspiracy theories have begun as to why this could be happening. Some individuals believe that the cracking could be a result of Huawei neglecting to build in a common plastic shock ring that offers protection to glass panels. Others believe that the spontaneous destruction could be due to the glass overheating or suffering from sudden and unexpected temperature changes in the environment.
The manufacturer of the device is yet to issue any official word on the issue, but we’ll be sure to let you know if one filters down.
